The Admob Mobile Internet Traffic Report

The latest (February 2010) Mobile traffic report by Admob indicates the shift of internet traffic to smartphones. Now isnt that a cliche! But what seems to be building is the traffic from the Mobile Internet device. For the uninitiated, the Mobile Internet Devices are handhelds that connect to the internet but is not a phone.

Smartphones accounted for 48% of the traffic up from 35% in February 2009. In absolute terms the traffic volume sincreased by 193% YOY fueled heavily by application usage on iPhone and Androids.

Feature phones contribution fell from 58% (February 2009) to 35%. However the increase was 31% YOY.

iPod Touch powered MIDs to a 17% traffic contribution towards mobile internet. In absolute terms, MID category traffic increased 403%. Incidentally, iPod contributed 93% of the MID traffic followed by Sony PSP and Nintendo DSi.

In terms of smartphone requests from Operating systems, iPhone increased its contributing from 33% to 50% YOY while Symbian requests fell from 43% to 18%.Android took no.2 position and increased its contribution to 24% versus 2% last year.
